I’m starting my pre-op for a partial knee replacement, which will take place next Tuesday, March 4th. I’ve had 9 previous knee surgeries and I’m really ready to have surgery. However, the pre-operative stuff is quite disturbing. I have to shower twice a day with something that looks like cherry cough syrup, feels like cherry cough syrup, and doesn’t lather. Am I clean? I don’t think so. It’s a trick and the hospital will charge an extra $2000 for this procedure. After all, don’t doctors have to put their kids through college?
It’s difficult to see because I’m white from winter but my existing scar is twelve inches long. Here’s another view:
I know, my legs don’t appear to be great. That’s okay, they will once the sun comes out. Well, maybe they’ll just look a bit nicer. Sorry, I got side tracked. I was just excited to post pictures, perhaps photos of ships would have been better.
After my expensive shower, they have instructed me to put an antibiotic up my nose. Not thrilled with this, it feels weird, and I can taste it. It’s an ointment too so it’s sticky. I’m sure the doctor can put another child through private school with the cost of this since it makes no sense. I’ve never had to wash with cherry cough syrup or cram ointment up my nose for surgery. But then again, I’ve never had a partial knee replacement. I wonder what they have you do for a total knee?
LMBO! My mom just had a partial knee replacement on the full knee replacement she had done just 2 years previous and I’m pretty sure there was not any cherry cough syrup or ointment up the nose! Hope all goes well for you!
Thanks Kate, yeah, I think they’re running up the bill…hope your mom is doing well. Best!
Oh, wow! Good luck with your surgery!
Thanks, I just got a call from the doctor’s office, they’ve rescheduled my surgery for the 11th. Doctor has an emergency out of town…sigh. What’s new? HA!
I’ve never known anyone have to stick anything up their nose for surgery, what possible purpose could that have? I hope it goes smoothly in the end
I think they just want to rack up the extra dollars. Over here I have Medicare and sadly, it’s become one of the best insurances because they know where to bill and that they will be reimbursed. It’s also for all the foreign yuck in my sinuses and nasal cavities. Infection is big when they open up your knee capsule. Don’t want a horrible staph infection and have them go back in multiple times to clean it out!
But still, up the nose? It sounds a bit strange to me, I’ve never thought of that as a primary orifice for medicine. Still, I hope everything goes well for you.
I know, it’s a bit nasty…what to do?
Grin and bear it I guess Hope it all goes smoothly when it counts most.

They moved my surgical date to March 11th, a tuesday again. No cherry cough drops! HA!
PS. YOU LOOK LIKE A MOVIE STAR IN YOUR NEW PHOTO..WOW
Yeah, I wish! lol
Oh, nooooooooooooo! Your surgery is on my birthday! I’ll be partying down with margaritas and barbecue while you’re having surgery. Tell ya what. I’ll have a margarita in your honor!
I came close to having double knee surgery in September 2011. I had great insurance through Borders but their bankruptcy was ending coverage as of September 30, 2011. Since I couldn’t get out of bed sometimes, couldn’t stand after sitting, I went in to see about knee replacement while insurance would still pay for it.
Instead, the doctor gave me shots of cortisone in each knee and nary a problem since then!
Sending you positive thoughts from here in San Diego.
Wait! I’m getting something from L.A.
Wow! All sorts of positive thoughts are flowing through San Diego from L.A. on their way to you! Good luck and best wishes!
Yes, the surgeons moved it onto the 11th because one of them had a family emergency. Geez, not like surgery is easy to postpone but now I have a small cold so maybe it was for the best. Thanks for the positive thoughts and Happy Birthday my friend!
I’ve done the cherry cough syrup stuff…twice…and, nope, don’t feel clean! Just dries the hell out of my skin. Antibiotics up the nose??? Sounds like a weird trip…just sayin’
yeah, it’s a strange sensation…
