Los Angeles to the South

I was born in Los Angeles and spent 40 some years in the San Fernando Valley. Yes, that makes me like totally a Valley girl. God, I’m glad I no longer speak in such a crazy manner. I love L.A. as the song goes and I miss it almost daily. There is so much to do there. You have Malibu and every beautiful beach and sunset. The traffic is a nightmare, you must signal, close your eyes, and shift lanes. Sometimes it takes an hour to move 10 miles. Sometimes the filming crews make the streets impossible to maneuver but you just put up with it. Especially if you’ve grown up there. Seeing a celebrity is nothing but another person making a living. I love the city. I love the crowds, the anonymity of the large bustling metropolis.

Then I moved because of the cost.

I got high blood pressure soon after moving to the South. They drive very slowly, talk slowly, and move slowly. It made me insane. A new acquaintance told me that people hunted and went bowling out here in North Carolina. I don’t do either. Plus, I felt that everyone was really nosy, asking questions and talking too much. I just wanted to get gas not tell my life story to the clerk. I felt like I moved to Mayberry. I did. After 8 years here I’m finally good with the slowness and the chit-chat. When I go back home to L.A. it takes me some time to get back to that rhythm of life. L.A. is really my home but for now I’ll take going to my friend’s children’s basketball games and hanging out at Starbucks. At least they have one now. I’ve even gone bowling and had a great time. I still have high blood pressure and drive too fast. I still miss the beaches and the gorgeous sunsets but I’m good here too. It’s just a LOT different. A LOT.
