Overdue Bills and the Circular File

I have a LOT of these lying around the house, mostly unopened. I know what they are because I hold all my mail up to the light and if it seems like a bill for services rendered, then I leave it untouched. Opening them makes me feel as though they should be paid but I’m not sure who will pay them. I figure I’ll get around to them eventually. Or the good fairy (much like the Tooth Fairy) will pay them while I’m sleeping or at least leave a big, fat check under my pillow. However, this never seems to happen much to my surprise. Call me naive but I think it could be possible sometime in the future. I have faith in the good fairy but sometimes I wonder if she has any faith in me. Maybe she’s seen me take my unpaid bills and put them here:

circular file

Most commonly known as the circular file. Though some do call it a trash can. I  make sure there is no pertinent information that could come back to haunt me. Though my credit rating, for obvious reasons, isn’t great, so I wonder who would want my stack of unpaid bills. The invoices with my social security number on them go directly to the fireplace where they belong…unopened of course. Opening them would just make me depressed and then I’d have to run a tab at the nearest psychiatrist so he/she could put me onto anti-depressants for unpaid bills. That’s just another bill waiting to happen. And one I would not open either. The circular file is my friend.

Here’s another item that usually ends up in the circular file. Have you ever noticed how you feel when you receive a Birthday or Christmas card with no money in it? Disturbed comes to mind but I usually feel empty and who the hell sends only a card? Shouldn’t there be something in it besides a smiley face that states “love, Dad.” How about a gift card at the very least? Please, don’t send one at all, a phone call is more appropriate in my book. “Gosh, thought about getting you something but I’m just too cheap/lazy/pathetic to get you anything at all.” Then we have a nice conversation and I cross them off my phone list and write ‘rude’ next to it.

I am still waiting for someone to pay off my student loans. Looks like it might be me. I think the good fairy went to Bermuda for vacation.

About Cynthia

I'm a little crazy but who isn't? I enjoy writing about my many odd experiences and my perception is really altered by time, age, and drugs. Not really but it sounds cool. I'm from Los Angeles and moved to North Carolina. I don't like culture shock but it happens anyway.
